eek anxiety
Tags: singing

Okay, so, my job is having a talent show in September and my coworkers want me to enter it. I am a singer and do sing occasionally at weddings when I have the time but I am so weirdly anxious about singing in front of my coworkers >.<

I'm a massive perfectionist and I feel like I would worry so much about being absolutely perfect that I would screw up and then do worse than I might do normally. Which then would embarrass me because then my coworkers would be all 'Wow, I thought Phyllis said she could sing and she fucking sucks' and DNW.

But I would really like to win the money in the talent show. IDK, I talked to Jeff about it and he seems to think it's a product of my mother's constant putting me down (e.g. I win an award for voice, she rambles on and on about how my classmates Katie and Jenna and Megan are sooooo good and doesn't mention me at all) and that I'm actually a very talented singer.

Like, for example, I was all "Well, maybe I'm better than 60% of the population just because I've had some training," which I felt was realistic and Jeff was just like, "Oh my god you are so much better than that."

So IDK. This was a ramble. And a video under the cut for demonstrative purposesCollapse )

I try not to post about politics terribly much and try to keep that to discussions with my husband or with [personal profile] ceilidh but this</i> just fucking burns me up.

rant pantiesCollapse )

Now that I've had my Will McAvoy moment, I'm going to try and write some fic.

dresses

Look, okay, I realize me deciding to get married was kind of a spur of the moment thing but for the love of GOD why does it have to be so arduous to find a damn dress in a size that isn't 24W or 00? THERE IS NO IN BETWEEN.

I absolutely didn't want a white dress but I thought surely I could find some kind of mother of the bride type thing in purple or deep blue EASY AS PIE. NOPE.

I ended up getting something in sapphire blue that I like well enough but I paid more than I wanted to for it. The only saving grace is that I can wear it to the opera or to perform in instead of black, so >.>

Of course the sales women were no help, because they kept pulling prom dresses even though I'm A) Almost thirty (I guess I don't look it?) and B) I SAID I WANTED A DRESS FOR A WEDDING. Also don't flatter me by trying to pull a 12 off the rack to see if it will fit. You know damn well I'm a 16-18 and sometimes a 20 if it's cut narrow in the bust.

*headdesk*

I did get new makeup (some of the MAC Archie collection that made me think of [personal profile] merridia) today to make up for this horrible experience. And a blue silk blouse that reminds me of MacKenzie McHale.

(no subject)

Well, a few pleasant surprises today!

- work presented me with an amethyst and diamond ring for my 5 year work-a-versary. I am a fan.

- work also sent me home early, again, and is letting me have next Wednesday off

- Jeff got his bonus from the bank, which was 3% of his salary.

- WE HAVE FINALLY DECIDED TO ACTUALLY LEGIT GET MARRIED (If I don't get cold feet again) and we're going on a cruise to the Bahamas in March to do it.

A thing that happened today.

So I went to Ulta to buy two of the new OPI James Bond colors (Goldeneye and Live and Let Die) and they were setting up for a HUGE Smashbox demo tomorrow. Well, three of the Smashbox reps were ooing and aahing over my skin and my eyelashes and my eye color (I wasn't wearing makeup today) and asked if I'd come back tomorrow to be a live model for a look using some of their products!

In exchange for letting them put makeup on me and potentially using my photo, they're giving me a FREE PRODUCT up to $50.00 in value. Anything I want.

OH. MY. GOD.
